Tenzor International Cup - J/70 Open Winter Series 2024-2025 - Stage 4 Day 1

by Burak Zengin 14 Mar 23:22 UTC 14-16 March 2025

Light wind and tactical games on the waters of Aspat Bay made the first race day very exciting!

The first racing day of the Tenzor International Cup - J/70 Open Winter Series, stage 4, turned out to be very interesting and was marked by a large number of bright moments at the distance.

Despite the unstable and light wind, the Race Committee managed to hold two races.

"There was very light wind this morning. the Race Committee got the start line ready straight away so they wouldn't miss the 7-9 knots of wind coming from the east and south-east", commented Can Giray, PRO of regatta. "With a clean start, the 16 J70s competing headed towards mark#1. But as the wind got weaker, RC made the second upwind leg shorter, from 1 mile to 0.6 miles, and displayed the Charlie pennant between the gates. This was how the first race finished. A new course was set quickly for the second race, and again, the whole fleet started without OCS. However, as the wind got much weaker quickly, RC postponed the race with the AP pennant after the end of the second race."

The participants noted the excellent work of the judges, as well as the fact that the races were unpredictable and very exciting.

It was not easy to arrange the races tactically, and many teams, including the leaders, did not guess the sides and lost speed.

Hubex team skippered by Anton Frolov scored a great victory in the first race. In the second one, Hubex came in fourth, and topped the standings of the day!

"We had great starts today, and enough speed. The wind was light with global approaches, we managed to guess the sides, and I would like to mention our young helmsman! Today was the first race in his life that we were able to win in this class. Everyone is happy, the team did a good job!, said Mikhail Sheremetyev, tactician of the Hubex team.

Anatoly Arnautov's Atoll Sailing Team demonstrated stability in both races, finishing in the top-5 twice, which earned the team second place and 8 points.

Alexander Romanov's GASWAR team rounded out the top three leaders of the first racing day with 11 points.

The fourth and fifth positions in the standings were shared by Dolce Vita and Ameera Jet with equal number of points.

As Alice Kirilyuk, tactician at Dolce Vita, said: "There was light wind, but the judges were able to hold the maximum number of races for today, for which we thank them very much. We had a tactician mistake in the second race and immediately went very far, but did our best to won back all possible points in this race."

Double V Sailing Team took sixth place, finishing brilliantly in the top-3 of the second race.

Mikhail Senatorov, the skipper of the team, shared his emotions. "It was a beautiful day! There wasn't much wind, but the races became very interesting. During the races, everything changed with every wind gust, and we couldn't relax for a second. In the second race, we successfully left the start in the right direction. Also we tried to perform the maneuvers technically and in a correct manner. We look forward to continuing the race!"

Igor Rytov's "Bogatyrs" team scored a victory in the second race, but the first race was unsuccessful for the team — only the 13th finish, as a result of the day — 7th place and 14 points. Bars Sailing Team and Tenzor Team finished the day with the same number of points.

Ayaz team was marked as the current leader of the Corinthian division with 6 boats competed, ahead of O1 Properties, Ada JR and other rivals. For HSSK Quick Sigorta in their debut it was a tough beginning, but two more days to race ahead.

"Today was a though day for us with very light wind. We made bad starts and our course side choices were not well. Our crew weight is 380 kg so for this conditions we are a little bit heavy and could not make good speed. Hope next days we will be better and improve our position", - commented Saruhan Cinay, skipper of the team.
