Italy's European Champion Alessandro Marega continues to lead the Finn World Ranking List as the fleet prepares to head into the first major event of 2025. He holds a 50-point lead over Peter Peet from The Netherlands with Switzerland's Christoph Burger up to third.

While Peet has moved up three places, Burger is the biggest climber in the top 20 moving up six places on the back of his victory at the Semaine International de Finn in Cannes in February. Former World No 1, Laurent Hay, from France drops to fourth.

This release includes the following events:

  • New Zealand South Island Championship, won by Richard Hawkins
  • South Americans, won by Antonio Moreira
  • Portuguese Nationals, won by David Terol
  • Valencia Olympic Week, won by Miguel Fernandez Vasco
  • Finn Sailing Academy Invitational in Vilamoura, won by Frederico Melo
  • Australian Championship, won by Anthony Nossiter
  • North Americans, won by Rodion Mazin
  • US Championship, won by Rodion Mazin
  • Semaine International Cannes, won by Christoph Burger
  • New Zealand Nationals, won by Ray Hall

The latest world rankings list is the most extensive yet, and includes 1,399 sailors from 40 nations. It is based on the best five events over a two-year period taken from the World Tour for Finns, which takes in around 60 events each year across the world.

The first major event of the year is fast approaching. The 2025 Open Finn Europeans in beautiful Naples, in Italy, has attracted 127 entries so far and brings together a highly competitive fleet, including a number of returning top sailors, so that will be fascinating.

In June the Finn World Masters returns to Medemblik, with more than 300 sailors already entered, and then in September the fleet heads to Cascais for the Finn Gold Cup, before heading down under for the 2026 Finn Gold Cup and Finn World Masters in Brisbane.

The next World Ranking List will be published in June.

The full ranking list can be found on the IFA website.
