Lessons from Whittier Trust on sailing and planning
Transpac Heritage Sponsor Whittier Trust is no stranger to the challenges that arise when preparing for a feat such as racing from Los Angeles to Honolulu. In fact, the company has a storied past with the race.
Members of the Whittier family first sailed the Transpacific Yacht Race in 1923 aboard Poinsettia. Unfortunately, damaged sails ended that expedition early—but the family and company has participated in many Transpac races in the decades since. Whittier Trust became the race's Heritage Sponsor in 2019 and in 2021 the company's CEO David Dahl sailed in his first Transpac.

Register Now: Late Entry Fee Kicks in After March 1
Aloha to the 50th entry in the 2025 Transpac, the M&M 72 Extreme H20 2.0, a multihull owned by Patrick Benz. The entry list is now at 52 and filling in with a deep pool of talent and the return of many notable racing teams and boats, including 2023 top finishers Dave Moore's Westerly and Roy Disney's Pyewacket. Some classics with storied pasts in the race include the Bill Lee sled Merlin and the Spencer Ragtime, who had her Transpac debut in 1973. Two TP52s, Akua Kai and Favonius 2, are in it to win it, and the popular fleets of Andrews, Beneteaus, Santa Cruzes and various J/Boats are also stacking up.

Transpac Checklist: Make plans to ship your gear
Services include picking up gear in California and delivery to your boat on Oahu, and transporting racing gear back to California.
Boats making the return trip back to the mainland after Transpac often need additional gear for the delivery. Shipping logisticians Joe & Laura Neale will be collecting gear at various locations throughout California and then loading a container to ship to Hawaii. Gear pickups will be held in San Pedro, Long Beach and San Diego—stay tuned for dates and pickup locations to be announced in the spring.
Delivery gear transported to Hawaii is $3.95 per pound, excluding fuel containers, which are $4.50 per pound. All fuel containers must be empty and wiped clean of all residues.
The service includes picking up gear in California and then delivery to your boat on Oahu. Gear will be weighed at the time it is picked up and payment is due by cash, check, Zelle or Venmo.
In Hawaii, the PASHA container will be in the Ala Wai Harbor parking lot. A representative from the boat must accept the gear, and then it will be delivered to the boat. There is an additional service to ship your racing gear back to the mainland, available for $3.50 per pound. Return gear will be accepted until July 18, 2025, 12:00pm. On the mainland, delivery is available to San Pedro, Long Beach and San Diego.
