The highly anticipated 35th Annual Mykonos Offshore Race is set to start with a record-breaking 92 entries, the largest keel-boat fleet in the race's history.
Hosted by Royal Cape Yacht Club, a Club currently celebrating their 120th year of existence, this iconic event, known for its challenging conditions and exhilarating offshore racing, will see competitors from across South Africa and abroad converge for a thrilling West Coast showdown.
The 2025 edition welcomes international entries from Austria and Germany, as well as top contenders from South Africa's inland sailing communities, including a strong contingent from Gauteng's Vaal Dam. The diverse fleet promises intense competition and a spectacular display of offshore sailing at its finest.
All eyes will be on Jackal, the defending champions, who famously secured victory by a mere three seconds in last year's nail-biting finish. Jackal returns this year with their seasoned crew, ready to defend their title against a very competitive fleet. Competing in this event for top positions are also previous Cape to St Helena Yacht Race winners, Diana Hutton Squire onboard TinTin, as well as Rijk Kuttel on Flica, both yachts will be vying for a podium finish.
This year, the all-female development team, Alexforbes Angel Wings, is a standout entry, who are using the Mykonos Offshore Race as a critical training milestone in preparation for their upcoming Cape2Rio Race campaign. The participation of this trailblazing team highlights the growing focus on diversity and development in South African sailing.
The Mykonos Offshore Race continues to cement its status as one of South Africa's premier offshore sailing events, offering challenging wind conditions, world-class competition, and the warm hospitality of Club Mykonos at the finish line. Watch the 92 boat start in Table Bay on Friday morning from 08h30 to 09h00, for a magnificent spectacle of premier South African yachting.
