The scallop rules are currently open for consultation until 7 February, so don't forget to Have Your Say.
For recreational fishers, we're proposing changes to allow the sharing of scallops between licence holders, including:
- Allowing fishers who have dived to share catch amongst themselves so everyone can take home their bag limit.
- Allowing the take of one additional bag limit of scallops for a licence holder on the boat who didn't participate in fishing.
- Introducing a boat limit of 250 scallops to reduce risk for localised scallop depletion and enable Tasmania Police to undertake effective compliance related to catch sharing.
For commercial fishers, we're proposing to reduce the number of scallop units required to activate a licence when diving for scallops and to prevent the possession of scallops below the minimum size when diving for scallops.
You can learn more about the changes we're proposing, why we're proposing them and how to Have Your Say on our website.
