The Royal Torbay Yacht club was really buzzing for the annual prize-giving which took place on Friday 22nd November, a gala evening and celebration of the year's sailing achievements and successes. The club once again enjoyed a busy and successful racing season with 5 classes racing in 12 series and over 90 races, and more than 100 sailors taking part.

A three course dinner was much enjoyed by all present, prizes and trophies were presented throughout the evening by club Commodore James Clapham. The club's long history of competitive racing is supported by a fine collection of historic silverware and trophies.

Class Champion awards were presented to Gary Phare - Dinghy Class Champion, John and Kate Pollard - Sportsboat and SB20 Class Champions, Caroline Aisher and Julian Cook - Cruiser Class Champions, Lyn Mc Garey - IRC Class Champion.

The Volunteer of the Year award was presented to Jane Meek and Lisa Scourfield for their regular work in crewing one of the Safety Boats for Wednesday night racing over many years.

Royston Tilbury and Barry Clark were jointly presented with the Faye Jones Memorial Trophy for their outstanding contribution to the club, both on and off the water in 2024.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the prestigious Champion of Champions award, the Wilkinson Cox Trophy, to the PY Dinghy Class Champion Gary Phare.

The Junior Prizegiving took place in the club after Squadron 13 sailing on Saturday 30th November.

The Royal Torbay Yacht Club has been at the heart of sailing in Tor Bay for over 160 years and remains so today. The club supports Yacht and Dinghy racing, Sail and Motor cruising, training and Junior sailing offering a range of opportunities for all ages. The historic clubhouse sitting proudly above the harbour offers a warm and friendly welcome to members, new members and visitors alike.
