October 21-27, 2024
The Chesapeake Bay delivered gorgeous conditions Thursday for the 48 teams competing at the 2024 J/22 World Championship.
Another three races were run by PRO Mark Foster and the Race Committee, bringing the total to six and now including the discard. Winds started at 16-18 knots, and dropped only slightly throughout the day, with continued sunny skies, moderate temperatures and choppy seas. Travis Odenbach's Honeybadger maintained his hold on first place, posting scores of 4,12,1. Dropping the 12, the Rochester, NY-based team has 16 net points, one better than Glenn Darden's Baby Doll. Will Welles' Cougar rose to third overall with a stellar day (2,6,2) for 23 net points.
Teams departed the dock on time from Eastport Yacht Club in Annapolis, Maryland for race four, won by local Brad Julian's Yard Sail, pursued by Welles and Darden. In the next contest, Darden moved up to the top spot, with Chase Quinn's Osprey and Mike Gemperline's Defiance getting in on the action. Odenbach secured his position for Thursday with a bullet to close the day, while Welles stayed strong as runner-up and Mike Farrington's AdJusted third.
Racing continues through Saturday. Complete event details available here.
