RM Ranking 6 at Norwich Model Yacht Club

by Vinnie Zammit 9 Oct 09:35 UTC 6 October 2024

Sunday dawned and the threat of no wind and weed after Saturday's event was on everyone's mind.

How pleasant it was when we all arrived at Whitlingham to find that contrary to the forecast of a light Southerly wind, we were met with a steady westerly of 7-8 knots. All very exciting but where was the weed?

Out went the competing boats in a pre-race search to find that the majority of the weed had gone back to weed land, and the broad was relatively weed free. Oh, wonder of wonders, this allowed the Norwich race team to set a Windward / Leeward course, with a spreader at the windward mark and a gate at the leeward end.

Unfortunately, we were down to 7 boats as some of the skippers had called it a day and others were unable to sail the Sunday. Great shame as conditions were extremely good, and those that were not there missed out on some good racing.

From the start of the meeting, it seemed that Duncan Ellis was on fire, winning 8 of the first 10 races before lunch, and after lunch another 3.

By the end of the day, Duncan won 11, GB won 4, and Barrie Martin, Roy Stevens and Graham Hetem won one each.

A very pleasant day's racing in which all competitors adhered to the rules and sailed in a very gentlemanly manner.

Thank you all for making the Racing Team's task easy. We look forward to seeing you again.

The Vintage boats won the day With a roadside wind direction, the day was going to be somewhat challenging for a few. From the bridge end it was decided on 2 points out, but was this the right decision, as it looked like we had a run from both ends of the lake. Posted on 7 Oct
