For the Nacra 15 UK fleet, our Winter training camp 1 at the WPNSA started on Saturday with a nice breeze increasing throughout the day.

As the British Youth Sailing Team group headed out into the bay for some big wave practice, the class squad stayed in the harbour to work on boat handling and upwind boat speed.

During the afternoon, the class continued with tuning runs working on twin wiring downwind and confidence building in the windier weather. At 4pm all boats headed in and once packed away we all got together for a great evening social at Portland House, where we watched some Louis Vuitton Cup along with Strictly Come Dancing. We also wished a Happy Birthday to Eliza!

Returning to WPNSA on Sunday morning, we set up and all went to the morning briefing where Lead Coach Theo Williams spoke about the forthcoming World Championships in Barcelona and gave us a flavour of what to expect at the venue. As we launched the wind was again increasing making it quite similar to Saturday.

After a couple of tuning runs in the harbour to warm up Jas did a follow my leader for the Class squad through the harbour entrance to join the BYST boats in Weymouth Bay. Once in the bay the class worked on keeping momentum in the waves and to push more downwind to get greater gains in preparation for the Worlds.

After lunch the Class and BYST groups joined together for some fun racing to end the camp. As the wind began to fill in and the waves began to grow racing became quite interesting! After four races, we all headed in for a smooth pack up and debrief at 5pm.

With good value boats available to purchase in the UK and the new winter calendar under way it's a great time to start your Nacra 15 journey! Head to www.nacra15.co.uk to find out more.
