Border Counties Midweek Sailing Series concludes at Winsford Flash Sailing Club

by Pete Coop 4 Oct 2024 12:05 UTC 1 October 2024

Despite a rainy / strong wind and flooding forecast, 18 competitors arrived at Winsford Flash for the final round of the 2024 season.

Race 1

We were met with a favourable North Westerly wind. Race officer Jon Close set a windward leeward course. Wind approx 10-12 mph - both shifty and gusty.

With average lapping in operation there was significant shift in results as the front runners who did an extra lap, suffered a wind decrease on the final run.

A short break for lunch was followed by two back-to-back races.

Race 2

The wind increased and a change of course produced some reaching legs with many boats starting to plane and a few capsizes

Race 3

Wind increased to approx 14 - 16 mph. Great conditions with most boats enjoying full on hiking and some fast planing.

After a great days racing, there was just 3 points separating the top three. Most Border regattas are closely fought, and positively all boats on their day can climb onto the podium.

Overall Results for the day:

1st Double Handed boat - Simon & Julie Dolman, Miracle
1st Junior - Nayth Twiggs
