Ballyholme, Northern Ireland produced an array of challenging conditions as 14 sailors from the Performance Academy competed in the ILCA 6 Youth European Championships last week.
With one day of racing lost, the first four days provided light shifty winds, however the final two days saw the wind pick up in what proved to be a competitive and strategical regatta.
Charlie Linsell and Daisy Colingridge were in attendance coaching, which included a 3-day pre-event training camp. Three male sailors managed to progress to silver fleet, with every sailor showcasing significant improvement in their performances as the championship went on.
"Despite difficult conditions the sailors did a really great job managing this, and I am super proud of the progress we saw throughout the event. A lot of the group attended our residential training camp, so it was great to be able to facilitate their progress and see a lot of what we worked on in action, as well as the great group comradery and spirit." - Charlie Linsell, Head Coach.
The ILCA 6 Youth European Championships was an excellent experience building opportunity that will be beneficial to our sailors' long-term development. Their attention now turns to the upcoming British National and Open Championships this week.
