The RS Tera World Championship 2024 was officially opened in Denmark on Sunday 4th August by the Copenhagen Showband. The vibrant marching band, dressed in their signature orange, led the 119 sailors in their procession of teams along the Greve Marina waterfront.

The mass of flags, sailors and the supporters finished the procession next to the host club Sejlklubben Køge Bugt. With a vibrant finale, the band finished their triumphant display along with dancers and popular hits all covered on brass.

The Mayor of the municipality of Greve officially opened the event. Speeches were given by the organising team, Vice-Chair of the International RS Tera Class Association Peter Toft, and Builder's Representation Dan Jaspers from RS Sailing. Sailors, their families and supporters who had travelled from all over the world were welcomed.

The RS Tera World Championship 2024 has already broken records; selling out registrations more than three months in advance of the event. This year, 57 sailors are racing in the fully-battened Pro rig and 62 juniors are racing in the smaller Sport rig.

"It's great to see so many sailors participating in the RS Tera Worlds this year. We've got representation from nine nations in total, including some even flying in from as far as the USA.", says Dan Jaspers.

Over 500 people attended the opening ceremony, which was followed by a buffet dinner, with the spread ranging from BBQ favourites to local meatballs.

Racing started on Monday 5th August. After a couple of false starts, the committee boat managed to get the racing under way. Three races were held on Monday and another three also today. Both days of racing so far have been graced with beautiful sunshine and a decent breeze.

At the end of Day 2, Lin Zhou from the USA is leading the RS Tera Sport class with a streak of 1.0 and 2.0 places after 6 races. UKR's Yevhenii Kuzmenko follows in second place with just 1 point separating them from GBR's Rafe Bradley in third.

Fresh from winning Bronze at the RS Feva World Championships in the Netherlands last week, GBR's William Stratton-Brown is leading the Pro Class with a clean sweep of 1.0s. Cassius Day, also GBR, is next in second place, with UKR's Dmytro Antipin in third.

With two more days of racing to go there's still plenty of action to unfold. Stronger winds today should make for exciting racing. Keep up to date with the results as they come in on the notice board.
