Dangerous conditions continue Wed and Thurs, Byron down to Illawarra

A deep low over the southern Tasman is still generating vigorous southerly winds and powerful waves along the coast on Tuesday. Winds and waves are expected to ease Wednesday, with winds turning westerly as the low weakens while a high pressure ridge develops over the northern Tasman. Then a trough of low pressure looks set to cross the coastal waters on Friday, bringing a return to fresh to strong southwesterly airstreams.

Where

Dangerous conditions are expected to continue on Wednesday and Thursday on all coasts from Byron down to Illawarra, with seas of 1 to 2 metres plus southerly swells of 2 to 3 metres.

BOM is warning that on Byron to Illawarra waters surf conditions are expected to be hazardous for coastal activities such as crossing bars by boat and rock fishing.

Swell period

Swell period will be 10 to 11 seconds.
