Flying Fifteen open meeting at Middle Nene Sailing Club

by Wilf Kunze 14 Jun 2024 08:16 UTC 8-9 June 2024

A small but exciting Open Meeting was held at Middle Nene SC in Thrapston (Northants) as part of the Southern Traveller Series on the 8th/9th June weekend.

With several 'regulars' held up this year by personal commitments and holiday absence, it was a small fleet of four boats (three from Middle Nene SC and one from Ripon SC) that experienced very close, exciting racing over the two-day event with a total of five races.

In gusty winds of up to 25mph the crews were kept busy, including some on-the-water running repairs, and very much enjoyed an evening rest with a BBQ dinner and a chat in the clubhouse bar.

Line honours were taken by MNSC's team Mark Greer/Jim Reid (GBR 2433) who had established the lead early on, taking home the Tiller Trophy for the overall winner as well as the Maxwell Cup for the best Classic boat in the fleet. Second were Matt Yallop/Stuart Bartholomey (GBR 3873) and third Graham Lamond/Jordan Aspin (GBR 3428).

The fourth boat in the fleet (GBR 2240) crewed by Solomon Day and Heather Trollinger received the Flying Fifteen BBQ Trophy for their first participation in an F15 Open Meeting.

Early June 2025 has been confirmed as the next Flying Fifteen Open Meeting to be held at Middle Nene SC and further details will be published in good time. For any questions about this or other events at Middle Nene SC please contact
