Golden snapper (fingermark) are on the chew up in the Gulf thanks to the two most recent additions to our artillery of FADs (Fish Aggregating Devices).
We teamed with Carpentaria Shire Council and Catchment Solutions to install these two all-water FAD arrays late last year.
These structures include surface buoys, subsurface buoys, pyramid habitat anchors and ledge and cave anchors, with the aim of attracting pelagic and demersal fish species — creating a bonanza for fishers!
Deployed 15 kilometres and 32km offshore from Karumba in far north Queensland, they bring the total number of FADs across Queensland to 50.
A special thanks to Carpentaria Freight and Kerry D Fishing Charters for helping with the deployment of these FADs.
