Ullswater Yacht Club has opened entries for the Daffodil Regatta and the iconic 62nd Lord Birkett Trophy, its two principal racing events of 2024, and is excited to announce their sponsorship by Magic Marine and Triggernaut Sports Glasses.
The Daffodil Regatta on April 27th and 28th celebrates spring at the Club's beautiful location in the Lake District National Park. The 2024 event includes the Musto Skiff and RS200 Northern Championships, and class starts for VX Ones and OK dinghies, but is open to all with handicap starts for dinghies, keelboats and cruisers.
Ranked number 8 in Yachts and Yachting's top 50 'must do' sailing events, "The Birkett" honours Lord Norman Birkett who died in 1962, two days after making a successful speech in the House of Lords that prevented Ullswater from becoming a reservoir. With an entry limit of 230 the Birkett is contested over two all class handicap races around the length of the lake on the weekend of July 6th and 7th. The mass starts followed by 14 mile courses in spectacular scenery and a festival atmosphere, define the event.
Camping and motorhome parking is available in the Club's grounds on both weekends. The Birkett also features a spectator steamer on Saturday and the ever popular beer tent and live bands. Magic Marine and Triggernaut Sports Glasses are also contributing prizes and competitor discounts.
