Translated 9's Stellar triumph: Emerging victorious in the second leg of the Ocean Globe Race, leading overall in IRC, Line Honors, and Flyer Class, affirming its dedication with "We Believe in Humans."
The Ocean Globe Race commemorates the golden jubilee of the Whitbread Round the World Race—an unparalleled and adventurous regatta distinguished by the absence of modern technology on board and a crew composed of 70% non-professionals. Translated has demonstrated that by joining forces with individuals who have exceptional values and attitudes, you can overcome any challenge and achieve remarkable feats.
Translated 9, the epic Swan 65 owned by Translated, a leader in AI-powered language solutions, has achieved another historic victory, crossing the finish line in
Auckland to complete the second leg of the Ocean Globe Race. The crew's triumphant moment came at 1:25 pm local time on December 12 (12:25 am UTC on December 12).
In this leg from Cape Town to Auckland, Translated 9 exhibited unparalleled skill, securing first place overall in multiple categories. The team achieved excellence, coming 1st in IRC (the official ranking of the OGR, which ensures fair racing between different boats), 1st in Line Honors, overcoming the challenges of being the fifth-slowest boat in the fleet, and 1st in the Flyer Class (55ft - 68 ft).
Combining the results from both the first and second legs, Translated 9 now proudly sits top of the pile in IRC, remains competitive in Line Honors, and maintains its dominance in the Flyer Class.
Auckland welcomes Translated 9 and their journey, proudly underlined by their motto: "We Believe in Humans."
Marco Trombetti, CEO of Translated, shared his thoughts on the victory: "To all those who underestimated us, in the last leg, I said that by the end of this stage, we would prove what we are made of. We have removed all doubt. Believing in humans pays off."
The crew's resilience and strategic brilliance shone through once again as they achieved victory, navigating the treacherous Southern Indian Ocean and facing the strongest winds (the "roaring forties") and big waves. At one point, the boat reached an exceptional speed of 22.4 knots, a testament to the crew's navigational skills and the vessel's capabilities. Credit also goes to the incredible refit that the boat underwent.
The crew for this leg included Vittorio Malingri, co-skipper; Nico Malingri, chief mate; Simon Curwen, navigator; and a team of passionate non-professional sailors: Niccolò Banfi, Maretta Bigatti, Derin Deniz Binaroglu, Marco Borgia, Baptiste Gillot De Villers, Paul Marshall, and Ezgim Mistikoglu. Their collective efforts contributed to the resounding success of Translated 9 in this leg.
Looking ahead, Marco Trombetti, after completing the first leg, will rejoin the crew as co-skipper for the challenging third leg from Auckland (New Zealand) to Punta del Este (Uruguay). This leg promises to be particularly demanding as it passes Cape Horn.
Vittorio Malingri, co-skipper and renowned Italian ocean sailor and boat builder, shares an additional insight into this monumental achievement, further emphasizing Translated 9's dominance in the Ocean Globe Race: "In Cape Town, we achieved a historic milestone as the first Italian boat to win a leg in a crewed round-the-world race—an unprecedented accomplishment. Not stopping there, we secured victory in the second leg in IRC and Line Honors.
The navigation during this leg was fantastic, marked by standout moments such as the start, where we were the first to cross the starting line. The Southern Indian Ocean, as expected, proved challenging, with subsequent fronts of low depression featuring waves reaching 7-8 meters and gusty 50-knot winds. Navigating through these trials, we sped like crazy, hitting an outstanding speed of 22.4 knots. Enduring cold and fog for many days, the crew demonstrated remarkable resilience. The entire team experienced significant growth, with everyone putting their best effort into every action. The atmosphere was focused and joyful. This is a happy boat."
Translated 9's journey is increasingly inspiring a wide audience thanks to their powerful demonstration of human courage, pushing beyond limits to achieve goals that others consider impossible.
