More positive news from the industry. A record number of exhibitor applications for the 2024 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show (SCIBS) will see the event sold out early in the New Year. While interest was expected to be high following this year's record-breaking show, Mulpha Events General Manager Johan Hasser said organisers have been overwhelmed by the response.

"More than 80% of the show space for our 2024 event (May 23 to 26) is already secured," he said. "Industry sentiment confirms SCIBS is a strong sales and marketing platform with many brands expanding and investing significantly more in their boat show display." He said Mulpha was thrilled to welcome existing and new exhibitors to the iconic Sanctuary Cove location for the 35th annual SCIBS event.

"There will be no better opportunity for industry members to put their brands in front of an enthusiastic audience and for visitors to inspect and compare Australia's largest collection of the latest and best boats and marine products in one location."

Overseas, The Yacht Sales Co and Multihull Solutions will be showcasing an extensive range of sail and power yacht brands at the upcoming Thailand International Boat Show from 11-14 January 2024. Representing the world's finest brands, including Fountaine Pajot, Maritimo, Dufour Yachts, Absolute Yachts, ILIAD Catamarans, Tesoro Yachts, and NEEL Trimarans, a team of specialists will be available throughout the show to assist guests with queries on buying or selling new or pre-owned yachts.

There will also be an exclusive Maritimo lounge area with brand specialists on hand to provide information on the shipyard's prestigious range of motor yachts.

From Europe, METSTRADE, the foremost international marine equipment trade show, held annually in Amsterdam, this year marked its 35th year and has been acclaimed as a vibrant success. Attracting 28,900 visitors who registered more than 18,630 unique visits during the three action packed days from 15 to 17 November, the event showcased 1540 exhibitors, 240 of which were new to the show, from 53 countries, with a brand-new venture to highlight marine industry start-ups.

The Australian International Marine Export Group (AIMEX) members were there in force as both exhibitors and attendees. Exhibitors in the Australian Pavilion included Coursemaster Autopilots/Hydrive Engineering, Rainman Desalination, GME, Ronstan International, Greencorp Marine, VEEM Marine, Superior Jetties, Evercor, Marine Protection Systems, Scorkl, Man Overboard Marina Alarm Systems, City of Gold Coast, DOCKPRO and BZ Optics.

Back in Australia, the Boat Works is adding more sheds, more hardstand and more berths for enhanced boat maintenance and refit to meet demand. The Boat Works is expanding yet again, with the addition of 50 percent more sheds and hardstand and the marina expansion to welcome more in-water service berths. Just four years after opening, the Northern Superyard yard will soon welcome brand new super-sized sheds for optimised controlled working environments.

"The development in major marine infrastructure marks a substantial step forward in our commitment to providing top-notch services to our valued clients," said The Boat Works' owner, Tony Longhurst.

The Boating Industry Association of Victoria (BIAV) wrapped up its 2024-member Roadshow last week. This followed an intensive state and city wide tour of individual and group visits, as well as a zoom meeting to finish up. Well over 50% of all BIAV members have taken part and it's been, once again, a very valuable exercise. Many potential new members were also welcomed during the sessions. Thanks go to everyone that either hosted a visit, or attended.

Meanwhile, the BIA in partnership with the ICOMIA and supported by the Queensland Government launched the Boating Industry Sustainability & Decarbonisation Briefings this week. The briefings are designed to share the findings of the Pathways to Propulsion Decarbonisation for the Recreational Marine Industry Report and bring the Queensland maritime industry together to discuss the critical topics of sustainability and decarbonisation in boating.

Briefings have taken place in Coomera and Brisbane so far, with the Mackay session and Cairns sessions following.
