The Sandy Bay Sailing Club will commence its 75th Anniversary Sailing Season on Saturday, 21st October. The season will be formally opened at a commencement ceremony at the club's Long Beach facility followed by sailing activities.
The Commodore of the Sandy Bay Sailing Club (SBSC), Jory Linscott, said the club was looking forward to another exciting season and the opportunity to celebrate our 75th Anniversary. "Sailing gets you outdoors, onto the water and focuses the mind. It's great for mental health and stress relief", he said.
"SBSC has a long and proud history of providing introductory courses, sailing and competition to young people in the Optimist, Cadet, Laser and 29er classes. The club also has a strong record of producing national and World champions. We are keen to build on this. Sailing fosters independence, teamwork, resilience and respect for the sea. We believe it is important to create opportunities to offer these skills to an even wider range of young people and to make this great sport more accessible." Mr Hamilton said.
Sandy Bay Sailing Club was recently awarded as the Australian Sailing - Tasmania Club of the Year in its category and has been selected as a finalist for the National Award to be announced in November.
Sandy Bay Sailing Club will celebrate it's 75th Anniversary doing what it does best, providing opportunities for young Tasmanian sailors to excel on a national stage when it hosts up to 50 crews for the International Cadet Class National Championships in December/January.
Sandy Bay Sailing Club is proud of its promotions and support of girls in sailing with an ever increasing female membership base and the provision of a safe and friendly environment in which our girls can strive to achieve on a level playing field.
The Sandy Bay Sailing Club also provides the opportunity for youth participation at a grass roots level as an affiliate of Australian Sailing's Discover Sailing Program and the promotion and facilitation of the Tackers Learn to Sail Program.
