Sport Fishing Championship (SFC), the governing body of saltwater tournament fishing, announced the results of the Oak Bluffs Bluewater Classic, held out of Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts. Team Polarizer finished second place overall in the competition and first among SFC-registered teams.

Team Polarizer's finish earned them 3,000 points and put them into first place on the SFC Atlantic Division leaderboard and second place on the SFC overall leaderboard. During the tournament, they completed an historic Super Grand Slam, landing four different billfish species in a day. The fish they caught included a blue marlin, a white marlin, a swordfish, and a spearfish. This is the first Super Grand Slam in SFC history.

The Oak Bluffs Bluewater Classic rules do not list spearfish as an official catch, therefore Team Polarizer did not earn points for that fish. Overall, Team Polarizer caught a blue marlin, seven white marlin and a swordfish for official tournament scoring.

"We came up here not really familiar with the waters, we've never fished in this area before, but it was probably one of the most exciting tournaments with top-level competition out there," said George Robinson, Team Polarizer Angler. "The spearfish was a blind bite. We were in a bit of a fight, and it wasn't until it got close that we were looking at this fish and said, 'Holy smokes!'"

The Oak Bluffs Bluewater Classic also saw a new angler take the lead in pursuit of SFC's season-long Bigeye Championship Fish Division. Jordan Sanford of Team Gypsea landing a 245-pound fish to put him in a great place to win the $50,000 prize.

SFC tournament points accrue based on a team's placement in the final tournament standings, with the first-place team earning 3,500 points, the second-place team 3,000 points, and so forth. Placements in the tournament standings are determined from tournament-only points based on species of fish caught and released, with the highest consideration given to blue marlin, then white marlin and spearfish, and finally sailfish and swordfish.

The season's next tournament will kick off on Monday, July 24, in Block Island, Rhode Island for the Tri-State Canyon Shootout.

The season's events thereafter include: the Texas International Fishing Tournament in South Padre Island, Texas, August 4-6; the White Marlin Open in Ocean City, Maryland, August 7-11; and conclude with the San Juan International Billfish Tournament in San Juan, Puerto Rico, August 23-25.
