We've been building a better boat every day for nearly 60 years, and the Viking demonstrator program has been instrumental in carrying out that mantra.
The demo team includes leaders from Design, Engineering and Sales whose hands-on experiences help us continually improve the product while interacting with owners on the tournament trail. Pictured above is our latest demo - a Viking 64.
She's a looker, for sure, boasting an attractive Shark Grey gelcoat; faux teak transom, toe rail and salon door; and a striking tuna tower from the Viking subsidiary Palm Beach Towers outfitted with 14 rod holders and a custom hardtop and upper helm station with sunshade.
Watch the action in comfort from the air-conditioned, raised observation mezzanine, which is also shaded by the flybridge overhang. The 180-square-foot teak cockpit is battle-ready, equipped with a Release Marine Trillion Series fighting chair and everything you need - from fish boxes and bait and tackle storage to ample live well capacity and rod holders - to reach the winner's circle.
Our walkaround center console anchors the flybridge. The sleek-and-streamlined fiberglass module holds three flush-mounted 17-inch touchscreen Garmin displays, a teak helm pod and two radio boxes - with split lids - for various instruments and controls. The hardtop underside, painted in Shark Grey to match the hull, is built with an integrated space to hold the teaser reels and an electrically actuated drop-down electronics box.
The yacht is equipped with a custom package from the Viking company Atlantic Marine Electronics, which includes all the latest navigation, safety, entertainment, communication and fish-finding equipment (including omnidirectional sonar). The three teak helm chairs are precisely positioned for ease of movement. Guests can relax in the lounges on the port and starboard sides, and the best seat in the house may be the two-person lounge (shown below) with backrest air-conditioning integrated into the console's forward end.
The 64's inviting open layout has a natural flow, promoting socialization while providing separate gathering areas. The interior's horizontal grain walnut and attractive furnishings, with various shades of grey and white, complement each other perfectly.
The raised dinette balances form and function. It provides excellent views outside and allows for rod storage below. Viking's superb joinery work is on full display here - notice the curvature of the rod locker's walnut face, as well as the radiused shapes of the drawers under the dinette seating.
With four staterooms and three heads, no other sportfisher in this size range has more interior volume. The master and forward staterooms each are appointed with queen-size walk-around berths with custom inner-spring mattresses and storage underneath, HD TVs and ensuite heads. The owner has two choices for the master stateroom layout. The first puts the queen berth athwartships, providing a large area for his-and-hers hanging lockers. Alternatively, the berth can be placed in a fore-aft orientation, which maximizes walkaround space and provides a large entry credenza. Our demo features the latter arrangement, as shown above.
The 64's engineroom - coated with a durable Snow White Awlgrip polyurethane enamel for enhanced visibility and access - illustrates Viking's mechanical expertise. Twin MTU Series 12V 2000 M96X (2002MHP) engines power our demo, which delivers incredible speed (42-knot top end), torque and responsiveness.
