That pre-summer feeling

by SORD Fishing Products 25 May 2023 20:52 UTC

Is it just us or was every area with access to saltwater in the southeast USA firing off last week?

We saw Louisiana boats going 8 for 12 on swordfish, Destin boats catching wahoo within sight of land, Tampa boats smashing the tarpon, and the entire east coast lit up with just about every pelagic species you can imagine. It was a sight that we welcomed with open arms and our whole crew even had a chance to get in on the action. We spent a day last week catching a pile of wahoo and a single giant cow mahi that decided a purple cobia jig looked like a nice midday snack.

We are gearing up for the biggest SORD Expedition that we have ever had over the next 15 weeks that will see us go from Alabama all the way to New Jersey. The Gulf tournaments kick into high gear this week with the start of the Gulf Coast Masters out of Orange Beach Marina. We took a minute (for kicks) to power rank the entire Gulf of Mexico tournament circuit by total 2022 purse.

If you want to experience the electric energy of one of these tournaments, we would recommend the Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic, Mississippi Gulf Coast Billfish Classic, or the Blue Marlin Grand Championship. You cannot beat a Saturday night at any of these events having a cold beer and watching the best of the best back down the slip for the weigh-in.
