For the first time ever, METSTRADE will host a Start-Up Pavilion - in collaboration with Yachting Ventures - providing a space for emerging start-ups to showcase new and ground-breaking products and technologies.

Taking place in Amsterdam from 15-17 November 2023, METSTRADE is the world's largest trade exhibition of marine equipment, materials and systems. Recognising the importance of supporting entrepreneurs bringing new products and technologies to market, the new pavilion will allow 15 start-up companies to exhibit for the duration of the 3-day event. Technology and start-ups are reinventing the world, they are addressing some of the world's biggest challenges and are driving global transitions.

The Netherlands is a leading start-up hub with approximately 1,000 start-ups launched in the country annually, ranking the Netherlands fifth in the European Union and eighth Europe-wide.

Back in Australia, Highfield Boats CEO, Julien Carussi, will attend the 2023 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, 25 to 28 May on Queensland's Gold Coast, hosting the Australian debut of the all-new Sport 660. Since 2010, Carussi has headed up the Highfield brand of rigid inflatable boats. With foresight and a focus on performance and strength, the brand has earned a reputation for durability and sustainability.

Highfield boats have become the preferred RIB for major international sailing events, such as the Route Du Rhum, Extreme Sailing Series, Vendée Globe, Transat, Barcolana and the TP52 circuit, as well as being the choice for intrepid sailors and adventurers.

And at the Australian Wooden Boat Festival comes news of a locally built yacht. With her sporty, classic profile, the Franklin 29 - brought to life by students at The Wooden Boat Centre in Tasmania - was a genuine showstopper at the Festival. Cody Horgan, Lead Shipwright-Manager at the Australian Wooden Boat School, and former student of the Wooden Boat Centre was thrilled with the response to the vessel.

"The feedback was great - she's one of a kind and among the best on show at the Festival," he said, adding that her profile and vivid blue hull would make her the ideal G&T boat fit for a secret agent. Best of all, the men and women who were involved in building her derived a tremendous amount of pride and sense of achievement.

Marine Rescue NSW has recorded a record number of rescues over the 2022/23 boating season. Volunteers across the state from the Tweed to Eden and on the inland waterways of the Alpine Lakes and at Moama were involved in a record 3,263 rescue missions from October 1, 2022 to ANZAC Day this year. This season's figure was an increase of 1.3% on the previous record set during the first year of the Covid pandemic in 2020/21 while emergency missions increased by 7% to 897.

Safety being of prime importance, excitement is building on the far South Coast as Marine Rescue NSW, in conjunction with Yamba Welding and Engineering, produce the first-of-its-kind 'Secure Class' vessel which will be known as Eden 30. The 11.3 metre boat is expected to be delivered in late winter and will be the first vessel assigned to the Eden unit after loaning XRAY boats from Marine Rescue NSW state headquarters.

Marine Rescue NSW Senior Manager Fleet Kelvin Parkin said the 'Secure Class' name came from an epiphany. "I was thinking about different names that we could use for the class of vessel when I was doing a presentation to Marine Rescue staff at our annual forum. "I ran it through Yamba Welding, we discussed it to make sure that they were happy with the name so the 'Secure Class' vessel was born," he said.

Meanwhile dealer expansions continue. Performance Cruising Yachts have announced the addition of Italia Yachts to their collection of luxury yacht brands. As a premium performance brand, Italia Yachts produces a range of racer/cruiser yachts from 33 to 71 feet. In addition, they will soon launch a new line of power boat models, starting with the alluring 43 Veloce.

Founded in 2011 in Chioggia - Venice, Italia Yachts philosophy is to design and build yachts that are high-quality, fast, stylish and safe, for demanding sailors looking for a one-of-a-kind yacht with a timeless design. Recognition for the brand soon followed with Italia Yachts amassing a plethora of outstanding consecutive ORC World Championship Awards, European Yacht of the Year Awards and Best Performance Cruiser Awards. The production is now based in Castelnuovo - Fano, on Italy's' east coast.

Matt Hayes, owner and CEO of Performance Cruising Yachts said: "We have been selling yachts into the Australian market for over 20 years and are ecstatic to have such a prestigious and globally renowned race winning brand as part of our growing portfolio of high quality and luxury models."

New products this week include an anchor. The Rocna Anchors range has been expanded with the development of a new improved version of the original Rocna anchor. The Rocna Mk II anchor is based on the same design pattern as the original, but refines and upgrades all elements for increased holding performance and strength. Peter Smith, lifetime sailor, boatbuilder, and designer of the range, has been working on his new anchor development for years. "I want to keep improving anchoring for boaters, by applying good engineering fundamentals and taking advantage of the more sophisticated manufacturing methods we have access to now," said Smith.

Also, VETUS, a world leader in bow thruster technology, has introduced a new smaller boat BOW PRO thruster for 140 mm tunnels. Suitable for vessels up to 9m (30 feet) the BOWA0401 features a brushless induction motor which allows for long runtimes and eliminates the downtime usually needed for motor maintenance. The advanced technology built into the BOWA0401 significantly improves manoeuvrability in tight situations where the thruster can be activated for longer runs to assist the vessels turn rate in even rough conditions. Thanks to the 40 kgf output and patented MCV intelligent motor controller, the BOWA0401 provides unparalleled efficiency.

As a marine industry platform, our content has reached many parts of South East Asia and industry sources have expressed a need to gain exposure from the region. Camper & Nicholsons continues its international expansion with the announcement of a new office opening in Ocean Financial Centre in Singapore. The new office is the second location in the region for Camper & Nicholsons, and follows the opening of the Hong Kong office in 2017.

The Singapore office is controlled in full by Camper & Nicholsons and the company is delighted to appoint Julien Solari as chief commercial officer in Asia. Julien has over ten years' experience in the yachting sector with six years in a sales manager role and four years as Singapore country manager for another leading yachting brand.

Greenline Yachts, the leading hybrid yacht manufacturer, is proud to announce its partnership with Derani Yachts, a well-respected yacht brokerage and dealership with a strong presence in Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Under this new partnership, Derani Yachts will serve as the official representative of Greenline Yachts in these for Greenline new markets, offering sales and aftersales support for the full range of Greenline Yachts models.

Long-standing yachting specialists Lee Marine have just been appointed as Sunreef Yachts dealers in Thailand. The company has been active in Thailand for over 20 years representing several major brands and guiding clients through the acquisition of superyachts.

Josh Lee, managing director of Lee Marine, commented: "With our deeply experienced client base demanding personalized yachts built to purpose, it is the perfect time to represent a brand that offers such an exceptional range of yachts, both power and sail, enabling us to work extensively with the customer to create their ideal luxury yacht knowing that they can cruise the whole of Asia and beyond in complete comfort."
