With an entry deadline of 28 April, there is limited time left to secure a place at the 2023 OK Dinghy World Championship, jointly sponsored by PRO-SET® epoxy and Ovington Boats.

The championship is being held in Lyme Regis, UK, from 22-30 June. Just three weeks are left before entry closes and there are 129 entries from 11 nations pre-entered.

The level in the fleet is staggering, with arguably the most high-calibre fleet since the 1960s. The 2023 event has attracted an unprecedented number of top UK sailors to join the class, while pretty much all the previous world champions still sailing are on the entry list, which will be the biggest OK Dinghy World Championship ever held in the UK.

The entry list includes seven former world champions (Andre Budzien, Germany; Greg Wilcox, New Zealand; Thomas Hansson-Mild, Sweden; Roger Blasse, Australia) plus all British world champions (Nick Craig, Jim Hunt, Charlie Cumbley) and a huge number of top sailors from across the world. Cumbley will be defending the title he won in Marstrand, Sweden last year.

The international entry incudes seven from the top 10 at the 2022 worlds, plus current European Champion, Bo Petersen, from Denmark, Valerian Lebrun, France, Lars Johan Brodtkorb, Norway; and 2022 runner-up Niklas Edler, Sweden). Other British entries include Andy Davis and former Finn sailors Matt Howard and Andrew Mills, all sailing their first OK Dinghy worlds.

At least 15 sailors could be described as potential winners in a competition that will set Lyme Bay on fire in June. It is an incredibly strong field in a class that is getting tougher and more competitive every year.

For those who have already entered, payment of entry fees is due by 28 April. If you still want to be part of this amazing event, then entry does remain open until 28 April, but entry and/or payment after this date will be considered late entry and will only be accepted at the absolute discretion of the organising authority and you may be placed on a waiting list.

You can have too much of a good thing, but Lyme Regis in June will be the place to be for any OK Dinghy sailor worth their salt.
