In case you haven't heard, we're introducing a new flagship, the Viking 90, at the Viking Yacht Company and Valhalla Boatworks VIP Boat Show, Feb. 3-4, followed by her world premiere at the Miami International Boat Show, Feb. 15-19.
Hull No. 1 (the Kingston Grey Sky Bridge model shown above and below) is just one of four Viking 90s currently in production.
With her thru hulls in place and waterline established, the 90 is shown being prepared to receive her boot stripe (followed by bottom paint) in Building 5A, our tallest manufacturing facility. Three other 90s, which include two more Sky Bridge versions and the first Open Bridge model, are right on hull No. 1's heels as the best shipwrights in the world continue building a better boat every day.
Back on Line 1 in the manufacturing plant, our second Viking 90 is in the Carpentry stage. The deckhouse has been set and through-bolted to the hull, and work has begun on the teak cockpit installation. This boat will feature a Stars and Stripes Blue gelcoat. Next up: the installation of her enclosed bridge.
Most of No. 2's interior living components have already been put inside the yacht. These include parts and units needed to create the staterooms, crew quarters, heads, salons, galleys, pantries and other areas. Looking aft in the expansive salon, you can see the starboard-side galley's wraparound counter units are in place. The drawers and cabinet doors (as well as the salon windows) will be installed in the next build stage. To starboard is the platform for the raised dinette. The salon overhead is also being prepped for its lighting and headliner.
Here's a good view of No. 3, which will boast a Snow White gelcoat. The yacht has already received its twin MTU 2635MHP engines and its exhaust mufflers. Most of the running gear - including shafts, struts and rudders - has been installed, as well the trim tabs. Up next: a Seakeeper 35, which will be mounted in a dedicated space in the lazarette.
Looking through the port-side hull window, this image shows boatbuilders working on No. 3's full-beam master stateroom's forward bulkhead, which includes openings for the suite's port entry door and starboard walk-in closet.
In Viglass, our Fiberglass Department, a team of shipwrights is busy loading the dry construction materials in preparation for the resin infusion of the fourth 90, which will be our first Open Bridge 90. The boatbuilders have already installed the black carbon fiber materials, as shown. Like No. 2, she'll feature a Stars and Stripes Blue gelcoat.
The hull mold is held in a custom steel-and-wood structure (built by Viking's Plant Engineering Department), which utilizes trunnions that rotate the mold, giving the boatbuilders optimal access to the areas they are working on.
