This weekend saw 20 teams from around the country descend upon Oxford Sailing Club to compete in the annual Oxford Magnum. Good breeze on Saturday allowed 100 races to be completed, but a dying wind on Sunday forced racing to end after only 34 races.

Racing on Saturday got off to a prompt start at 10:00, aided by a steady breeze of around 10knts, and persevered right into the dying of the light, ensuring that our full schedule was completed. Everyone pitched in for a rapid Saturday pack up, letting teams head off quickly, either to get a good night's sleep or a good night's social.

Sailors arriving for the optimistic start time of 9:00 on Sunday morning were met by a glassy reservoir, but racing did kick off in some light and shifty conditions at about 10:30 (complete guess). Sadly, this didn't last long and by 2pm racing was abandoned and results were decided off of the stage 1 rankings.

Congratulations to the Elmside Neighbours (Jack Hanslope & Phoebe Warren, Murray Hampshire & Emma Baker, Scott Wallis & Jess Hammett), who topped the scoreboard with ten out of ten race wins and went home with the titular magnum bottle of Prosecco.

They were closely followed by RTYC White in second with nine wins and the Cumberland Sausages, third, and Exeter Blue, fourth on eight wins each.

Special mention must be made to RTYC White, the only team in gold fleet to win all of their races on Sunday, and to Exeter Blue, the highest ranked university team.

Our event couldn't run without all the volunteers and umpires who gave up their time to help us get racing so thank you to everyone! Honourable mentions go to our Principal Race Officer, Keith Sammons, Chief Umpire, Chris Lindsay and our very own event secretary Tom Storey.

Thanks to all the competitors for racing and we hope to see you again next year!
