The International Paint Poole Regatta Committee were delighted to present the historic Canford Cup to Ed Wilton and the crew of 'Who's Next' as the overall winners of the 2022 regatta at a belated ceremony at The Royal Motor Yacht Club on Thursday 15th September.

The individual race results across the sixteen competing classes were tallied up and weighted to determine the winner. Team "Who's Next" achieved a highly creditable straight flush of first places to secure the win. Ed and his crew competed in the Stoneways VPRS Class 1 at the Regatta.

Talking about his win, Ed Wilton said, "I'm absolutely delighted to have won Poole Regatta 2022, in particular as an ex-Canfordian to win the Canford Cup! It's an absolute privilege to win one of sporting's oldest trophies. My team of friends, who I have raced with my whole life did me proud. We are renowned to always have the barbeque on whilst racing and work hard to win the race, whilst being well fed and watered on the way round."

Following tricky weather conditions on day one, day two saw racing almost completely abandoned due to a distinct lack of wind and an extensive search and rescue operation following a tragic overnight accident in the harbour, led to the cancellation of all further racing. For the majority of classes, this meant that the regatta results were decided on the four races run on day one. However, the Studland Bay course hosting Stoneways VPRS Class 2 and the Sonata Class achieved one race on day two taking advantage of a short-lived uptick in the wind.

Speaking about the 2022 regatta, Andrew Pearce, Regatta President said, "It is great to see Poole Regatta's 2022 winner finally presented with the Canford Cup. Despite the weather challenges and tragic overnight accident in Poole Harbour, we still managed to run a number of races and host two of the hugely successful social occasions associated with the Regatta. Ed Wilton and his crew's run of straight line honours is truly commendable and on behalf of the whole regatta committee I was delighted to present his awards. I would like to thank everyone involved in the 2022 regatta, from the combined clubs of Poole, my fellow committee members, the all-important sponsors and the participating entrants, everything comes together to make Poole Regatta a special event."
