Electric boat speed record shattered - MarineBusinessWorld Oceania newsletter

Vision Marine smashes the world record for world's fastest electric boat © Vision Marine Technologies

Vision Marine Technologies, the global leader in the electric recreational marine propulsion industry serving OEMs, is proud to announce an historic milestone in the boating industry by shattering the 100 mph speed barrier on an electric watercraft.

The event, in its 34th year, catered to a plethora of onsite and online video streaming viewers. A consortium of several important world-renowned players needed to come together to achieve such a feat. Vision Marine, in partnership with Hellkat Powerboats, gave birth to the V32, a 32' catamaran hull specifically designed to accommodate the necessary battery banks to power a pair of Vision Marine's flagship E-Motion™ electric outboards with the sole intention of breaking new ground.

The V32 was entirely designed from the ground up by Vision Marine's internal engineering team and Shaun Torrente of Shaun Torrente Racing, who was also in charge of rigging, setting up, and testing the V32 in Florida throughout the course of several months. To power this behemoth, a uniquely designed battery pack was developed by Vision Marine in partnership with Octillion Power Systems, which also acted as a sponsor for this race.

Nextfour Solutions supplemented the vessel's monitoring systems, and Pat Weissman of Weissman Marine engineered the outdrives.

More news of electric power comes from Any Port Marine who are pleased to announce their appointment as Australian distributor for the Norwegian based brand ThrustMe. ThrustMe was established in 2015 to develop electrical propulsion solutions and to produce products with a functional, lightweight and smart design.

The ThrustMe team has over 20 years of experience gained from the subsea and aviation industry and are therefore well equipped with knowledge and the know-how to develop a technically strong product range, which initially sees the Cruiser and Kicker Electric Outboards being introduced.

In Australia we prepare for the next important boat show in the country: the Melbourne International Boat Show taking place on 20-23 October. Exhibitors are forwarding us details of their displays, the latest coming from The Yacht Sales Co, who will showcase the award-winning Dufour 470.

The new model is expected to draw strong interest at the event, which will be held at New Quay in Docklands. The 47-footer has been acclaimed for its stunning design that delivers high-performance thrills.

People moves this week involves the Gold Coast City Marina (GCCM). The newly created role of WHS, Property and Compliance Manager was a natural progression as part of their commitment to continually raising the bar for OHS and Environmental compliance in the marine industry. The GCCM are pleased to announce that Stephanie Trounce stepped into this role, quickly coming up to speed with the relationships between their customers, onsite partners, and industry participants.

Stephanie will lead their Maintenance team and Compliance officers to further strengthen the presentation and functionality of the marina, ensuring site facilities are well maintained whilst workers and tenants are provided with a safe and healthy work environment.

And dealer expansion news from Aquila. A decade since its launch by Sino Eagle and MarineMax, Aquila has become a recognized global brand. During the brand's first five years, sales were practically exclusive to the United States when the company decided to grow the network of international dealers. Aquila now has representation, stock availabilities, and after-sales service in over 21 countries. The company has numerous plans to introduce and spread its luxurious lines of power catamarans even further by currently adding more dealers throughout the European market.

Although interest in the catamaran-style design and growth has soared since the company's inception, Aquila continues to be very selective during the process of choosing dealers to represent its brand. Besides being known for top-quality vessels, Aquila aims to maintain the best service and customer care. Therefore, as the company continues to expand its line-up and locations, it will partner with trustworthy affiliates that plan on providing the most excellent customer service and build an exciting future with one of the fastest-growing segments in the yachting industry.

Stay safe,
