Flounder: Some perfect nights for anglers recently. Good size and numbers are still on offer for the hardy angler that is willing to brave the cold!

Top five tips for catching Flounder

    1. Make sure you are rugged up with a good pair of waders to withstand the cooler water.
    2. Ensure batteries are charged for lights and are in working order.
    3. Search along different contour lines over tidal sandy flats until you find a fish, then concentrate around that depth.
    4. If using a boat, sometimes it's easier to cover ground with boat in reverse, this will help seeing and spearing the Flounder.
    5. Single and double pronged spears work best as they do less damage to the flesh, such as the Hook'em Flounder Spear.

Bream: Bream are still all through the Derwent in good numbers, although the sizes are on the smaller size. They have mainly been a by-catch for anglers chasing the Searun Trout.

Tuna: This week has seen the tuna slow a little with only the odd report

Australian Salmon: Salmon are still hanging around, most of the shores in the Derwent River have been productive.

Striped Trumpeter: The Striped Trumpeter have been fishing well over the last week, with multiple groups of anglers getting their bag limits fairly easily. Around the 100m depth has been the most productive. Inshore reefs have still been producing the odd fish.

Calamari: Squid have been going well in the Channel and the East Coast around Maria Island. Deeper water of around 8 to 10m has been the most productive.

Sea Run Trout: The Searun Trout have been caught in good numbers in both the Derwent and Huon. Local anglers have been catching good size and numbers below the Huon bridge of a night time using slowly retrieved soft plastic minnows. The Derwent fish have been widely dispersed along most shores north of the Bowen bridge.
