RBAW Member Communication - #MindTheZone on Lake Union

by Recreational Boating Association of Washington 19 Jun 2022 20:22 UTC

As we enter the beautiful summer months in Seattle, many of us will recreate in the heart of the city on Lake Union.

RBAW is leading an effort to raise awareness among all boaters—power, sail, or paddle—of the seaplane landing advisory zone that is in effect Memorial Day through Labor Day.

The #MindTheZone?campaign targets all water users to raise awareness of the five (5) seaplane advisory buoys that run north-south on the lake during these summer months. When the yellow lights are flashing, a seaplane is about to take off or land, and all lake users are asked to move 200 feet east or west of the buoy line.

See the info sheet below - we want to ensure everyone recreating on Lake Union is aware!. And we're asking our members and supporters to spread the word about these buoys and make sure their family and friends know what they are, and what to do! Download a PDF of info sheet from the #MindTheZone webpage.

If you are in the Seattle area and are interested in volunteering on-shore this summer to raise awareness for the Seaplane landing zone, send us an email at and let us know.

And be sure to follow us on Instagram and tag us when you #MindTheZone on Lake Union!

Thank you and have a great summer.
