by Antigua Sailing Week 1 Apr 2022 15:33 UTC 30 April - 6 May 2022
Antigua Sailing Week © Antigua Sailing Week

We are exactly 30 days away from being able to host crew and spectators from 20 countries with more than 90 boats for the 53rd Antigua Sailing Week.

For those of you who are on the fence about making the trip down to warm sunny Antigua & Barbuda, there is still ample time and opportunity to join us from April 30 - May 6 by entering NOW.

Flights are available on Virgin Atlantic and there are still charter options for bareboat and raceboat from Dream Yacht Charter and KH+P Yachtcharter and LV Yachting. We have seen the Caribbean Regatta season spring back to life in this post-covid era with successful events over the past 4 months. After Barbados, Grenada, St Maarten, St Thomas, BVI and St. Barths, and we are certain it's going to be a great year for Antigua Sailing Week.

After the 24 month hiatus, organisers are more than ready to see familiar faces and welcome vessels back at the start line. So until that time, here is the essential checklist for those of you planning to attend.

Brief bits of business before you arrive

Complete your owner and crew waivers

Waivers MUST be completed on line prior to arrival - for safety, for sustainability (no paper) and as part of our Covid mitigation strategy.

Visit here and add crew details (minimum requirement is first and last name and their email address) An automated email will be sent to that crews' address with their login details. They can do the rest.

Completed waivers = Free bottle of English Harbour 5 Year Old Rum at Registration.

New in 2022 - Pre-Race brief - 8 April at 8am AST

We are conscious that many competitors have questions to ask, feel unsure about protocols, want to understand what is different this year, have never been to ASW and so are soaking up all the information they can find.

To help you, and us out, we are planning an online briefing on April 8, 2022 at 8am AST. Breakfast in the America's, lunch in Europe, dinner further afield.

Let us know if you are interested by registering in advance.

Once registered, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting and on the day have your questions at the ready!

RRS Seminar - Friday 29, April

The Racing Rules of Sailing seminar is back and scheduled to take place on Friday 29th April, from 3 - 5 pm on the lawn at Antigua Yacht Club, this Seminar is designed to clarify the Racing Rules of Sailing, in an easy-to-understand fashion.

Chief Judge David Pelling will use race course scenarios to demonstrate how the rules should be interpreted. There will be time for questions and answers following the seminar. Race Manager Jaime Torres says, "ASW is pleased to offer this seminar for the 2nd time, as it will enhance participants technical understanding of the week they are about to embark upon. And, it should positively add to their experience once they are out the race course."

All sailors participating in both the Peters & May Round Antigua Race and Antigua Sailing Week are eligible to attend the free Racing Rules of Sailing seminar. You just need to let us know you are planning to be there by simply completing this short form. Skippers and crew, all welcome.

Health and safety during ASW

We are pleased to relay that Antigua & Barbuda has lifted many of the Covid mitigation protcols which had been implemented over the last 2 years and the up to date travel advisory can be found on the website of the Antigua & Barbuda Tourism Authority.

Personal responsibility will be key to making the event a successful safe experience for participants and organisers and we implore everyone to comply with the regulations in place upon arrival into the country.

Although masks are no longer a mandatory requirement here in Antigua & Barbuda, as an event, we will be requesting that participants mask up during the in-person registration process on April 29 & 30. Be sure to check and double check your on-line registration as this will reduce as much as possible the need to queue, leaving only the need to pick up race documents and your bottle of English Harbour 5 Year Old rum.

Then, to err on the side of caution, we will requiring patrons to be squeaky clean by sanitizing or washing hands prior to entering the regatta village at the Antigua Yacht Club. Feel free to bring an ample supply of masks and sanitizer for you and your crews personal use.

As it relates to departures, please make sure you are aware of the fit to fly regulations for your specific home country and whether there will covid testing requirements for return. Once you are in Antigua we will be doing our best to facilitate any required testing with local health agencies.

Staying connected

In these times, where it has become the expected norm to socially share every single activity we participtate in, we know how costly it can be to stay connected with friends, family even work while you are participating in Antigua Sailing Week.

This year our sponsors are offering multiple solutions to keep you in touch and sharing the experience with those back home. Local telecoms company APUA Inet will offer data packed sim cards for sale at the regatta village from Thursday 28 April through Saturday 30 April.

Also Axxess Marine will offer free Wi-fi in Sailors lounge at the regatta village at the Antigua Yacht Club - just look for the orange and blue zone when you arrive. Axxess Marine is also providing on the water connectivity so you will be able to live stream while racing and celebrating.

Chasing and celebrating

The rest of the week

With protocols easing, we are doing a final review of the social calendar for the week. Daily prize-givings will take place at Antigua Yacht Club and of course there will be a Final Prize Giving in Nelson's Dockyard.

We will be back with more information in a week or so for the rest of the calendar!

Where to dine

Our bar and restaurant partnership is back for 2022 with some new and delicious kids on the English Harbour block like 5 Senses, Ti Lolo, Lucky Eddi's, and some tried and true favourites including Catherine's Cafe & Maia South Point.

We recommend booking your crew dinners in advance and are providing the contacts for ease of planning. Be sure to let them know you are ASW participants for some extra special treatment!

Not a sailor? not a problem!

There's still opportunity for you to get out on the water, even if you won't be racing for the week. The original and official Chase the Race activity is back and in high demand. Book your places early so you won't get left on the docks.
