Stoneways Marine Insurance are proud to sponsor two upcoming races in the JOG yacht race series 2022. The 'Stoneways Marine Insurance Inshore Race Weekend' will take place on the 26th & 27th of March 2022 at Nab Tower, in the Solent area of Portsmouth. The sponsorship of the two races are part of the ongoing partnership between JOG and Stoneways Marine Insurance.
JOG (Junior Offshore Group) organises a full programme of annual competitive races for its members and allows smaller boat owners the opportunity to compete in coastal and offshore races to internationally recognised standards, whilst keeping the membership fees low. JOG, which offers a high standard of racing to IRC rated yachts was set up in the 1950's under the principle that it wanted to make offshore racing accessible for all whilst allowing its members to be back at work in the City by 9am on a Monday. It's an approach that continues to this day and its popularity often sees up to 30-40 yachts competing in each race.
The first race the 'Stoneways Marine Insurance Lonely Tower' is scheduled to start at 09:30am on Saturday 26th March and concludes with the "Stoneways Marine Insurance Great Escape" at the slightly later time of 10:30am on the Sunday. Both races follow a 35 mile course. The races are part of the 2022 JOG mixed programme that includes a longer offshore series with an OSR Cat 3 requirement and the shorter inshore series for OSR Cat 4.
This year, Stoneways Marine Insurance will be cheering on our very own Yacht Manager and keen sailor, George Beevor who will be racing his Sparkman and Stephens Sagitta 35 "Ugly Duckling" as part of the inshore series. George has had success in the past - winning the 2019 JOG Offshore Yacht Racing Inshore Series (Class 6) - we're keeping our fingers crossed for a great result in 2022.
George commented, 'JOG allows people like me, your everyday sailor, the opportunity to sail competitively offshore, under internationally recognised racing standards. JOG races are known for their friendly but hard-fought competitiveness and, also for their great sense of community. I'm especially looking forward to racing in the Stoneways Marine Insurance Inshore Race Weekend and I'm proud that we, as a business, can support JOG's message of sportsmanship and inclusivity.'
JOG uses a live results service on its public website during and after each race. To follow George's progress live, you can access the results via myjog.jog.org.uk/live-results
