A cold front near Victoria will bring a strong southwesterly change to southern and central waters on Monday and the northern coast on Tuesday. After this, a low pressure system is expected to develop well offshore, reinforcing a vigorous southerly flow.
Winds are expected to ease later on Wednesday as the low moves away to the east and a high pressure system near the Bight pushes a ridge across the state.
BOM is warning that on Tuesday on the Macquarie, Hunter and Sydney coasts there will be large and powerful surf conditions in the evening that are expected to be hazardous for coastal activities such as crossing bars by boat and rock fishing.
Seas will be up to 4 metres plus southerly/south-westerly swell of 4 metres.
