2021 Redoro Frantoi Veneti International Moth Worlds at Lake Garda - Day 3

by Moth Worlds 5 Sep 2021 17:43 UTC 31 August - 7 September 2021

A slightly subdued Ora compared to the first two days allowed only five races to be held. Tom Slingsby continues to lead, followed by fellow Australians Iain Jensen and Kyle Langford.

After two perfect days of qualifying, today was the first day of finals racing at the "Redoro Frantoi Veneti" Moth World Championship. The Ora remained for only five races. Unfortunately, a 60 degree wind shift before the last race, the third for the Silver fleet, did not allow the race committee to complete the entire programme for the day.

At the end of today the Australian dominance in the Gold fleet is consolidated, with four of the first five positions occupied by the "down-under" superstars.

First in the rankings with 8 points is the usual "Martian" Tom Slingsby, with two first places and a second. Trailing him by 11 points is Iain Jensen and third on 29 is Kyle Langford.

The first Italian in fifth place in the standings is Ruggero Tita with 35 points.

In the Silver fleet, after only two races, we find Frederik Just Melson, Denmark in first place; Luka Dogan from Croatia second and in third David Smithwhite from Great Britain.

Ruggero Tita said: "It was a difficult day because the Ora was not the classic one; I need to work on my starts but I'm happy with my speed. In the third race, unfortunately just before the start I came off from the foils and was forced to have a comeback race. Luckily these are the conditions for which the boat is optimized so I am happy with the results obtained today."

The day ends at the Fraglia Vela Malcesine with the "Redoro Aperitif" and the "North Sails Pasta, Beer & Fries party", social event that concludes this first day of the finals of the Redoro Frantoi Veneti Moth World Championship.

Tomorrow the warning signal is at 1pm; in the evening there will be dinner at the Speck Stube in Malcesine.
