2021 Melges 24 U.S. National Championship bound for grand success on the waters of Lake St. Clair

If there is one regatta that Melges 24 teams look forward to most every year it's the National Championship.

In 2021, hosted by the Crescent Sail Yacht Club (CSYC) in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan, the U.S. Melges 24 Class Association (USM24CA) is thrilled to have the event taking place in the heart of its largest fleet district, the Midwest.

"We are really excited about this event. September on Lake St. Clair is beautiful. This time last year Crescent hosted Event No. 3 of the Quantum Melges 24 Great Lakes Cup and put on a fantastic event," says USM24CA Midwest District Governor Chelsea Simms, owner of Straightarrow, USA-830. "The 2021 Nationals are in the middle of a string of events in the Midwest: two events leading up and two events after, with plenty of options for boat storage throughout this time. In the wake of our top events being canceled due to Covid over the past year, we are looking forward to finally having a National Championship and a tour of events to make up for that lost time."

Twenty-six teams are already gearing up for one day of practice and tuning followed by three days of top-notch racing. Shoreside social activities will also be stellar with two dinners planned: a BBQ on Friday night at CSYC, and another on Saturday night at Bayview Yacht Club with a strolling-style dinner of food, drinks and entertainment for everyone.

Keeping the wheels turning in the Melges 24 Midwest in a very big way, Quantum Sails has been delivering unwavered support for the Class with title sponsorship of the Great Lakes Cup (GLC). Now in its second year, the Quantum Melges 24 GLC is halfway complete; the National Championship is the third event on the circuit.

"We're off to a great start for the 2021 series - both the Muskegon and Traverse City events brought fun and close racing. It's especially awesome to see such a vibrant community of sailors competing together right in our Midwest backyard. The Great Lakes Cup embodies the excitement and enthusiasm this group has to get on the water, and the steep competition amongst longtime friends and newcomers alike," says a spokesperson from Quantum Sails. "We are proud to continue offering our resources and support to the Class as the Official Sailmaker of the 2021 U.S. Nationals. Get registered, and we'll see you on the water in September!"

Corinthian competition and early entry deadline is September 1st

Two items that all teams and competitors need to be aware of is that early entry and Corinthian competition deadlines are looming. Entries remain open for all participants up until the event starts, however Corinthians must submit declaration forms by September 1st to qualify to race in the all-amatuer division.
