Do you have a great idea to improve fishing in your area?
Better Fishing Grants are now available to provide or upgrade recreational sea fishing facilities at local fishing spots. The grants are part of a $2 million program to make sea fishing more accessible to all Tasmanians.

Reminders and events
31 August: The recreational rock lobster (Western Region) and striped trumpeter seasons both close at midnight.
10-12 September: Fishcare display at the Tasmanian Outdoor Boat and Caravan Show at the Silverdome, Launceston.
25 September: Womens Fishing Public Clinic at Wynyard Wharf, 11am-1pm. Register at
1-31 October: North Coast spawning squid area closed from Cape Grim east to Cape Naturaliste.
15 Oct-14 Nov inclusive: East Coast spawning squid area closed (includes Great Oyster Bay and Mercury Passage).
Rock lobster season dates
The opening dates for the 2021 recreational rock lobster season are:
Waters outside the East Coast Stock Rebuilding Zone: Saturday, 6 November 2021.
East Coast Stock Rebuilding Zone: Saturday, 4 December 2021.
What's the catch?
Season 2020-21 recreational catch estimates for rock lobster and abalone are now available from the annual IMAS survey of licence holders.

Northern squid closure dates
To protect spawning calamari, the squid and calamari fisheries will be closed on the north coast from 1-31 October 2021 inclusive.
