Contrary to the forecast and expectations, the wind arrived in a strong way today to Aregai's Bay, where the 2021 420 World Championships are being held. Champagne sailing conditions allowed the action to start early in the morning, sending all fleets to the water at 9am.

A steady wind of around 10-15 knots helped the Race Committee to complete the full 15 races sequence in a short 3-4 hour period.

The first fleet returning to shore were the Women, at around 1:15 pm, and subsequently the U17 and Men/Mixed fleets arrived some minutes later.

The Under 17 championship is led by Jaime Ayarza / Mariano Hernandez ESP (13-2-1) with 3 points, followed by Gabriele Venturino / Filippo Vulcanile ITA (2-6-46) with 8. Third place overall is for Zou Schemmel / Jean Philippe Boudard FRA (5-4-12) with 9 points.

Maria Perello / Marta Cardona ESP (15-1-10) lead the U17 Women's competition on fourth place overall with 11 points.

The Women's fleet is headed by sisters Paula Laiseca / Isabel Laiseca ESP (13-1-1) with 2 points, followed one point behind by Neus Ballester / Andrea Perello ESP (1-4-2). Third place is for Vanessa Lahrkamp / Katherine McNamara USA (2-7-6) with 8 points.

Don't miss the interview we made to the provisional leaders immediately after the races:

The Men/Mixed is the largest fleet in this 2021 420 World Championships and are racing in two groups. Will Michels / Spencer Kriegstein USA (2-11-1) are the leaders with 3 points, ahead of Lampis Giannoulis / Eleni Giannouli GRE (12-1-3) and Sebastian Riquelme / Miguel Perez ESP (1-3-13), both with 4 points.
