Palos Verdes artificial reef video shows how quickly marine life regenerates with enhanced high relief habitat.
Watch as Southern California Marine Institute, Occidental/Vantuna Group and partners document the Palos Verdes artificial reef restoration effort.
Take a moment to click on the above link and enjoy the awesome video highlighting California's brand new Palos Verdes artificial reef. The number of new inhabitants is truly remarkable, considering how the marine contractor's restoration effort started just last summer and finished up this past October. The reef is the result of the Montrose Chemical settlement from the late 1900's and was designed to restore both marine life, recreational and commercial fishing opportunity. The video documents just how successful this effort has become. I've said it before, but again want to point out the tremendous effort by Dr. Daniel Pondella. Dan took on this challenge a number of years ago orchestrating a range of partners through the regulatory process and shepherding the project to completion. Having watched previous, stalled attempts for nearly 2 decades with frustration, it's hard to convey just how important Dan's resolve and talent were in getting the reef through to its successful conclusion. We at the Sportfishing Conservancy are proud to be a small part of Dan's effort and are happy to say thanks on behalf of the recreational fishing community. This productive artificial reef should provide excellent fishing opportunity for generations to come.
