Better boating facilities are on the way for far East Gippsland, with concept design work to begin on an upgraded ramp and jetty at Cape Conran.

Minister for Fishing and Boating Melissa Horne said, having delivered on the Andrews Labor Government's commitment to make public boat ramps across Victoria free, Better Boating Victoria (BBV) is further improving boating through projects such as the Cape Conran upgrade.

Cape Conran's West Cape ramp is about 20km east of Marlo and is exposed to the ocean swell of Bass Strait.

FSC Range has been commissioned to provide design options for an extended ramp and longer jetty as part of the upgrade, to facilitate quicker and safer launch and retrieval.

Designs will also consider how to best combat the build-up ofsand and seagrass at the site, to reduce the frequency of maintenance and make it easier to use the ramp.

BBV will work closely with Parks Victoria, local user groups and other key stakeholders during the Cape Conran upgrade project, and plans will be released for public feedback.

As part of the process extensive community consultation will be undertaken, it is expected concept designs will be finalised by May.

"Cape Conran is a popular spot for boaters and fishers, and we are excited to see plans under way to make it easier and safer for both locals and visitors to get out on the water."

Member for Eastern Victoria Jane Garrett:

"These upgrades at Cape Conran are important to our community because it will be easier to launch and retrieve boats at the ramp and reduce the amount of maintenance needed."
