On Friday, 80 Sabres from many of the 30 clubs sailing Sabres in Victoria were starting to assemble for the 46th Sabre State Titles 13,14 February at McCrae Yacht Club. This was to be the largest one design single handed regatta of the Australian sailing season. Sailing conditions looked to be excellent.
At Friday lunch time the State Government declared a state-wide stage 4 lockdown for five days, meaning that the event could no longer be held as planned. It was then quickly postponed and competitors notified by email.
Led by McCrae's Col Dodds and Alistair Watson, new dates 6 and 7 March 2021 with provision for re-sail on the Monday holiday have been established. This will coincide with the Tasar State Championships at McCYC and their Association has graciously agreed to the Sabre event being hosted at the same time.
Sabre's new NOR and SI's with minimal variations, following the conclusion of Victorian State Government's lockdown, are being updated on Sailor App and advice to Sabre sailors has been sent via email.
The Sabre States are being sponsored by Ronstan and we welcome their active involvement.
Entries have now been reopened, closing 8pm Friday 5 March 2021, and we look forward to the event. It's a great opportunity to sail in a big fleet with close competition at all levels.
