Due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus (Covid-19), the renewed Medemblik Regatta, which was scheduled for June 4-7, 2020, has been canceled. The return of this spring classic in sailing will now take place from 2-6 June 2021.

However, the international regatta will now be held virtually from 4 to 7 June this year. Recreational eSailors can compete against top Olympic sailors and the best eSailors during the Virtual Medemblik Regatta and qualify for the eSailing World Championship Finals PlayOff.

Spring sailing classics go virtual

The Medemblik Regatta, together with the other spring sailing classics such as Trofeo Princesa Sofia, Hempel World Cup Series Genoa, Semaine Olympique Francaise and Kieler Woche, is part of the global eSailing competition. In this way, these classic international Olympic sailing events gain access to a community of over 2.5 million eSailors worldwide and sailors of all ages and backgrounds can share their passion for the sport together.

Bart Lambriex world top virtual and for real

One of the eSailors that will appear on the starting line on June 4 is Olympic 49er sailor Bart Lambriex. This Dutch sailor is on his way to Tokyo 202One in the 49er but he also qualified for the final of the 2019 eSailing World Championship in Bermuda where he finished 4th.

Lambriex is looking forward to the first Virtual Medemblik Regatta: "It is of course very unfortunate that all sailing competitions have been canceled, but that is why it is very cool to sail a number of those competitions virtually. You will come across familiar names in the pots. That way I still sail against my competitors from the 49er!"

For 2021 Lambriex still prefers the real water of Medemblik: "I am jumping to be able to compete in the 49er again. So, I also hope that the next Medemblik Regatta can continue as usual!"

Winners qualify for eSailing World Championships

The first "Medemblik Challenge" will start 4 June at 8am Central European Time (CET) and will last 44hours. It will be virtually sailed on the Nacra 17. The second "Medemblik Challenge" will start June 6th at 4am CET and will end 44h later on 7 June at midnight Paris Time. This challenge will be virtually raced on a 49ers.

Both Challenges are open to all players - no qualification is required. The results do count towards the world and national rankings of eSailors. Each Challenge will qualify the top player to the eSailing World Championship Finals PlayOff.

Challenges are now available and can be played on Virtual Regatta Inshore on Desktop - iOS - Android virtualregatta.com/inshore
