While the coronavirus plays havoc with world trade, Australia has faced its most tumultuous summer in years. Wild fires have devastated many hectares of bush while the following downpour of rain, while welcome, has caused its own problems and the clean-up is taking place.

In NSW Maritime Executive Director Maritime Mark Hutchings reassured the community recovery that efforts on the NSW waterway network are well under way. "The size of the job is considerable in re-establishing the network of navigation markers, clearing debris and salvaging boats following heavy rainfall, and in some cases flooding, combined with recent high tides," Mr Hutchings said. "Never have we been faced by such a widespread clean up task. "Normally when there is a flooding event it is localised to one area but this recent weather event has impacted waters right across NSW.

Superyachts are an essential part of the industry providing opportunities for developing new skills and for providing the services associated with maintaining the current and future fleet. Superyacht Australia is the peak body for the Australian Superyacht Industry and were the organisers of the inaugural Superyacht Australia Grand Soirée that was held in partnership with Major Partner Benetti Yachts at Jones Bay Marina on Saturday 22 February. The Superyacht Australia Grand Soirée included an impressive display of fourteen vessels along Jones Bay Wharf with many of these opening from 5pm prior to the commencement of this exclusive event giving Grand Soirée guests a unique opportunity. Vessels that were open for viewing included Event Partner Fraser Yachts spell bounding M/Y Sahana and the Ahoy Club's 54 metre M/Y Mischief along with M/Y Lady Pamela and M/Y Vegas.

In Queensland, The Boat Works' new Superyacht yard has rolled out the blue carpet for visiting vessels, now open for business after a phenomenally fast build time of nine months. Over the past two weeks, the state-of-the-art new yard has already welcomed some of the region's premium vessels over 30-metres for refit, repairs and maintenance, attracted by the 5-star amenities and the Gold Coast's largest lift at 300 Tonnes.

In collaboration with BlackCat Superyachts and Malcolm McKeon Yacht Design, McConaghy is proud to introduce the BlackCat 30. This 30m design is the third model in the ground-breaking BlackCat series of high-performance superyacht catamarans. McConaghy have been selected to join this exclusive alliance of partners due to our specialist knowledge and experience in the build of midsize carbon fibre multihulls and advanced composite construction methods. Other industry-leading suppliers involved in the project include the North Technology Group, reinforcing the benchmark of quality already established by BlackCat Superyachts in the large luxury cruising catamaran sector.

Eyachts, the Australian and New Zealand importer of some of power boats has turned their attention to the impressive new line currently being rolled out by Italian giants Cantiere del Pardo. In just over two years this head turning Italian brand has quickly become the No.1 walk-around dayboat in the sector. This rapid growth can be put down to giving the modern boater the experience, quality and style that they demand. Pardo's unique Italian style and functionality both above and below decks have won many admirers of the world over.

Overseas and having enjoyed strong growth throughout the last decade, with exhibitor and visitor attendance figures consistently rising, the organisers of METSTRADE have announced ambitious plans for the 2020 edition and beyond. They include a significant extension to Hall 5 at the RAI Amsterdam location, layout changes designed to facilitate further growth, and a range of smart solutions for networking and knowledge sharing. METSTRADE 2020 will take place from 17 to 19 November. With three-quarters of the exhibition floor space already booked ten months in advance of the event, the METSTRADE Show's unique role as the annual meeting place for the marine equipment industry has never been more secure.

And not overlooking the importance of the fishing contribution to the marine industry, Raymarine is proud to be a major sponsor of the prestigious 2020 Interclub competition and wishes to congratulate the New South Wales Game Fishing Association for yet again running a truly spectacular event. A solid run of black and striped marlin off the east coast resulted in premium game fishing action for competitors taking part in the 2020 Interclub, further cementing this event as the premier blue water comp in the Australian fishing calendar. "We partnered with the NSWGFA for our first Interclub back in 2014 and look forward to the event every year," says FLIR Maritime Asia Pty Ltd General Manager Damien Weber.
