Portishead Cruising Club end of season racing report

The 2019 season for PCC Racing consisted of four series, each of seven races. The first, the King Of the Road, was held off Portishead pier and went down to the wire, with J Star (J/80), Hero (One tonner) and Slipstream (Corby 26) all in contention at the start of the final race. J Star held their nerve and took the series by one point from Hero.

The Cockburn series used our Avonmouth start and was dominated by Hullabaloo (J/92s), who took the series with five points to J Star's nine and Hero's twelve. In parallel the 'with tide' series was also running: this consisted of four down tide and three up tide races. Hullabaloo's form continued, taking the series from J Star and Rockhopper (Tripp 40) with a 2,1,1,2 score line.

The Slipstream team had been using this time wisely, getting up to speed on their new boat Tsuru (Sunfast 32) and winning the Autumn series from Hero and Songline (Sigma 33).

Away from home our successful partnership with Cardiff Bay Yacht Club on the Shanghai Cup has continued: for the fourth year running a weekend of racing in Portishead was followed by a weekend in Cardiff. Unfortunately Hullabaloo were unable to defend their 2018 triumph, but dates have already been agreed for the rematch and an extended calendar of racing with CBYC in 2020.

PCC Racing also successfully defended White Spirit's (Colvic 26) 2018 victory in the annual Holms Race, with J Star taking the 2019 trophy. Further afield we dominated the big boat IRC class at Falmouth Week, with Ctrl J (J/109) in fourth, Rockhopper in third and Hero taking the win. Another fantastic year on the water for PCC Racing!
