SD IOM Travellers 3 was hosted by Tayside RSC at their home waters of Forfar Loch on the 5th October 2019. Forfar Sailing Club opened up their full facilities and provided sustenance throughout the day for the competitors and race team which was much appreciated.

The skippers briefing took place as scheduled at 09.45 but the 10.00 start had to be delayed as there was not a breath of wind on Forfar Loch, which was more like a mill pond with the trees on the far bank reflecting in the water making a picturesque scene, not good for sailing. The breeze did start to fill in at about 10.30 allowing the race officer, Ali law to get racing under way in very light conditions. The forecast south easterly did eventually pick up a bit but nowhere near the 12 to 13 knots which had been predicted.

Local skipper Tich Summers took an early lead in the light conditions but Steve Taylor form Aberdeen showed great consistency through 12 quite long races to take overall victory. Ian Dundas also from Aberdeen started slowly but banged in some good results towards the end of the day to take second place pipping Tich Summers by one point who had to settle for third.

Forfar Loch did live up to its reputation for providing great close racing but a bit more breeze on the day would have been good.
