Boston Whaler recently completed its eighth annual "Boatload of Backpacks" school supply drive to help give area students a positive start to the new school year. Employee contributions and matching funds from Boston Whaler allowed 160 backpacks filled with school supplies to be delivered to three local elementary schools in a new 170 Montauk.

"We're proud to support our community with programs like Boatload of Backpacks," said Boston Whaler President Nick Stickler. "It's so gratifying to meet with local educators and to know that we're contributing toward their students having a successful year. As a company, we owe a great deal to our community, and we're happy to be able to show our support in return."

A team from Boston Whaler greeted the students and their principals and helped to unload each delivery of backpacks and supplies. Volusia County Council Vice Chair and District 3 Representative Deb Denys accompanied the group on its third stop.

"I was excited to celebrate Boston Whaler's 8th annual Boatload of Backpacks this year," said Denys. "I joined the Boatload of Backpacks delivery to Burns Science & Technology School in Oak Hill, Florida, both to support Boston Whaler's annual backpack donation program and to celebrate the school's achieving its fourth year in a row as an A school. We have great businesses like Boston Whaler supporting great schools in our community. Way to go Boston Whaler and Burns Sci Tech School!"

On hand to receive the donations were Principal Becky Porter and Assistant Principal Michele Brown at Edgewater Public School; Principal Carrie Crkvenac and Assistant Principal Jennifer Holmgreen at Indian River Elementary; and Principal Dr. Jan McGee and Assistant Principal Tina Duncan at Burns Science & Technology School. Each location received more than 50 backpacks, each containing a school supply kit with crayons, pencils, glue sticks, scissors, paper and more for the schools to distribute as the academic year starts.
