Zhik are delighted to announce their support of British woman, Susie Goodall (28) one of the youngest competitors, and only woman entrant in the solo, non-stop round the world Golden Globe Race 2018. For Susie, a qualified ocean sailing instructor, sailing around the world has been a lifetime dream and the Golden Globe is the ultimate solo challenge for any sailor.

Originally won in 1968 by the sole finisher, Sir Robin Knox Johnson, the Golden Globe sailors will race with similar equipment to that used on his yacht Suhaili. For Susie that means no modern technology such as GPS, electronic plotters, email contact or weather forecasts. Navigating only by paper charts, sextant and trailing log, no self-steering, keeping hand written logs, recording her adventure with traditional film camera, no water-maker and cooking on a kerosene-fuelled stove.

Amongst the only modern equipment allowed on board is food and clothing, giving the competitors more chance to finish this most arduous of test of seamanship, human spirit, ingenuity and endurance.

Susie will be wearing Zhik's Isotak® X breathable ocean gear, which has been thoroughly road tested in the current Volvo Ocean Race as the high speed yachts blast through the Southern Ocean. Her very small wardrobe of outfits will also include sets Superthemal™ Hydrobase® base layers, Xeflex® mid-layer (with a warmth level comparable to extreme expedition clothing), ZK Seaboot™ 800s as well as Avlare®, the water-shedding performance tops and ZhikDry™ shirts for milder conditions.

Susie comments, "Keeping warm and dry in my Zhik gear throughout this nine month adventure, will help me keep focused on this epic challenge. There is no outside assistance, and few creature comforts as we race each other over 30,000 miles. There will no doubt be many highs, lows and some big challenges to content with. And knowing that Zhik's incredible garment innovation and attention to detail in their yachting gear means I'll keep protected and stay functioning 24/7 is key for me. So that's one challenge I don't have to worry about!"

Zhik's global sales director, Simon Payne adds, "We are thrilled to be supporting Susie in this incredibly daring and raw challenge, and as (currently) the only woman entered in the Golden Globe Race. Her endeavour and bravery in taking on this challenge is truly inspirational and we have total belief in her determination to succeed in this immense test of human endeavour."
