2017 Setley Cup and Seahorse Trophy Junior Model Yacht Regatta

by Stuart Jardine 26 Dec 2017 22:53 UTC 26 December 2017

No records this year; poor weather prior to Christmas reduced the entry by 29 models. Fortunately, the predicted short window in the weather with a light but gusty SW wind with some unpredictable calms prevailed and the rain only started after the prize giving.

24 Monohulls and 18 Multihulls were present for the first race with 19 Monohulls and 11 Multihulls completing enough races to record a position, well above normal.

In the Monohulls the favourites all started to show their class, although a number of them lost good points by crashing together at the start. The Winner this year of the Setley Cup was Maisie Hutchinson with Shimmer moving up from fifth last year. Sophie Rea was second and third place was tied with three boats, only being decided on best races.

The Multihulls this year was dominated by Finn Gabriel in Maxicat with 3 bullets and a 2nd, leaving last year's winner Lola Mordaunt and Raffy Seddon fight for second and third.

We must thank for all the young sailors for bringing along all their families to help and support them. Once again this "one off" event was run by Stuart Jardine and this year supported by the McEwen family, Tom & Barbie and Luke & Emma and also Linda Rogerson covering the registration and results. On the start/finish lines we had David & Ann Brunskill and Dorinda & Brenden Nellis, North side. Then on the South shore Chris Baldwick, John Evans, Ado Jardine & David Harris. Chief photographer was Doug Rogerson and last but not least James with son Jack Carter in the rescue dinghy.

Many thanks again must go to the Solent Radio Controlled Model Boat Club for allowing the Setley Cup to be held and the kind anonymous donation of new larger florescent orange numbers for all the multihulls.
