Nebo Boating App Logs Record Number of Users

Take the hassle out of manually logging your boating adventures with the Nebo boating app © Nebo

Just three months after its official launch on iTunes and Google Play, the Nebo boating app has been overwhelmingly embraced by boaters throughout the world.

More than 4,000 skippers are using Nebo to log their voyages in 55 countries, and on all continents other than Antarctica. Whilst not yet in Antarctica, Nebo is in regular use above the Arctic Circle.

Key to Nebo's immediate success are features like automated logging and on-water interaction with other vessels. Skippers receive an automatically compiled log detailing each day's activity, including their track, a detailed textual log, automated weather observations and any photos they've taken. It's a great record of boat usage, and is hugely popular.

Using geofencing technology, Nebo records detailed electronic voyage logs as the vessel passes through geographical locations.

Geofences, which are best described as polygons defining locations or regions on the earth's surface, enable Nebo to undertake actions when a vessel crosses a boundary.

Nebo founder Stephen Winter says it makes a lot of sense to build Nebo's foundations on geofencing. "We've spent thousands of hours building the world's largest maritime geofence database."

"It's been a huge undertaking, but now we have geofences in place for the major global boating regions," he said.

"Right now, we're triggering a log entry when a vessel passes a geofence boundary. In the near future, we'll also be able to display useful local knowledge about an anchorage or information about businesses in the nearby towns." Whilst Nebo is great on the water, it also provides other significant benefits. Nebo makes it easier to lodge and assess insurance claims, helps family and friends following the cruising adventures of loved ones, facilitates accurate expense distributions for shared boats and syndication companies, and assists charter companies and regatta organisers with the daily tracking of their fleet.

Users' voyage reports and images can be instantly shared with individuals, groups or the public on all social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and Whatsapp.

Nebo creates a connected and dynamic global boating community, with boaters sharing local information, requesting assistance, and staying in touch both on and off the water.
