ISAF Sailing World Cup Melbourne - Day 1 videos

by Nic Douglass 9 Dec 2015 11:37 UTC 7-13 December 2015

Sailing World Cup Melbourne day 1 was the first day for "World Sailing" under it's new name (previously ISAF), and what a day to mark down in the history books. A building sea breeze off the St. Kilda Sailing Precinct set the scene for a great day of racing across all fleets, and the proximity of racing to the pier and beach really drew in passer-by crowds...

I can't wait for the weekend and live TV, which will also be shown on a big screen right here on the foreshore... What a great way to share our sport with the wider public here at home in Australia!

To get back to the racing - for full results head to www.sailing.org/worldcup/results/index.php and for some interviews, check out the below.

Sailing World Cup Melbourne: David Gilmour

A chat with David Gilmour after day 1 of Sailing World Cup Melbourne. A bit hairy in the 49er class and he was lucky to avoid damage and take a 1 and a 3 today with his crew.

Sailing World Cup Melbourne: Tatiana Drozdovskaya

Tatiana Drozdovskaya (BEL) and Ashley Stoddart (AUS) battled it out on day 1 of Sailing World Cup Melbourne in the Laser Radial class. Plenty on, and this battle could well continue right through to the end of the event. Check out my interview with Tatiana here...

Sailing World Cup Melbourne: Khairulnizam Mohd Afendy

Known as "Izeem" this Malaysian full rig sailor had some ups and downs today with a sixth, and then a tough second race including a yellow flag. Great to see the Laser class is as competitive as ever and some fantastic international representation her at the Sailing World Cup in Melbourne.

Sailing World Cup Melbourne: Lee Parkhill

Lee Parkhill is one of the top ranked Canadians at Sailing World Cup Melbourne. It was amazing that he took the time to chat to me after racing today, even though he didn't have the best of days. Just shows that everyone has their good and bad days! I have promised that my interview will bring him good luck - here's hoping!

Sailing World Cup Melbourne: Luke Elliott "Swifto"

Swifto definitely lived up to his name today, posting a win (and apparently with a considerable lead) in race 1 today in the full rig class. The young Australian is a member of the Australian Sailing Squad, and definitely put down today's win, which was followed by a second in race 2, to training hard on and off the water with the Australian Sailing Team.
