JJ Boats / Allen Brothers Phantom Eastern Series at Hickling Broad

by Matthew House 21 Apr 2015 08:42 UTC 18-19 April 2015

With the promise of a good breeze and a weed free Broad, the class moved to Hickling Broad for Round 2 of the JJ Boats / Allen Brothers Eastern Series.

James Jarvey and Matthew House gave a day's training on Saturday and were left voiceless after giving the normal advice of Keep It Flat and Use More Kicker. Capsize drill was also undertaken but this was not compulsory.

Sunday's racing was held on a broad of two halves, light and shifty under the club and a good force four on the main broad.

Race one saw the fleet putting their new found depowering skill to good use and this let Matthew House show the fleet around, followed by Ian Miller.

Race two was another bullet for House. Miller was chased by lightweight James Jarvey and was passed on the last beat.

Race 3 started with some of the fleet still tucking into their lunchtime of pies or nursing injuries but the breeze had moderated.

Once again House hit the front followed by Miller. On the second lap local newbie Arthur Thaine found a stunning lift and passed the whole fleet to lead for the complete lap. His tactics worked against him the following round, demoting him back to 4th.

Race 4 was a tussle between Miller and Nick Favell with Miller taking Favell on the final beat.

Thank you to Hickling Broad Sailing Club for another weekend of great sailing.
